Fausti for the second time at the Magistral
The 39th Ciudad de León Masters once again confirmed its status as one of the most prestigious rapid chess tournaments on the international calendar. The traditional event featured four outstanding grandmasters in a knockout format: Jaime Santos (Spain), Lê Quang Liêm (Vietnam), Kirill Alekseenko (Austria/Russia), and Faustino Oro (Argentina). The title was claimed by Spain's Jaime Santos, who won the León Masters for the second time, adding to his 2023 triumph after delivering a consistently strong performance throughout the tournament. Although Fausti was eliminated in the semifinals, his performance left a positive impression. He competed on equal terms for long stretches of the match against an experienced opponent and rapid chess specialist. Once again, he showcased his tactical ability and creativity over the board, gaining another valuable experience against top-level international players.

Fausti shines at the 2026 World Chess Marathon in Lima
From June 25 to 28, 2026, the Sheraton Hotel in Lima becomes the epicenter of world chess with the celebration of the World Chess Marathon 2026, an event that aims to enter the Guinness World Records by attempting to establish the longest chess marathon on the planet, with 67 hours of uninterrupted play. As part of the opening event of this historic marathon, Fausti took part in a remarkable match on June 25 against Grandmaster José Martínez Alcántara, in a high-level battle marked by intense competition and maximum equality. The encounter, consisting of two rapid games and four blitz games, ended with a victory for Fausti by an overall score of 4–2. Fausti’s participation continued with a day full of chess activity. In addition to playing simultaneous games, on June 27 he competed in a rapid chess tournament, where he once again demonstrated his outstanding level, achieving first place after scoring 8 points out of 9 possible rounds.

Fausti joins the powerhouse team Chess United
From June 17 to 21, 2026, the FIDE World Team Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships took place in Hong Kong, a prestigious team tournament featuring a unique format that brings together elite grandmasters, young talents, and one mandatory amateur player per team. Fausti had the honor of representing Chess United, a formidable squad composed of renowned players such as former World Champion GM Viswanathan Anand, GM Jorden van Foreest, GM José Eduardo Martínez Alcántara, GM Humpy Koneru, IM Roman Shogdzhiev, IM Martha L. Fierro Baquero, and Turgay Seckin Serpil. In the World Team Rapid event, Chess United delivered a very solid performance and finished in 12th place overall. Fausti played a highly active role, competing in 10 of the 12 rounds and scoring 5 points, thanks to 4 wins, 2 draws, and 4 losses. In the Blitz section, the team competed in the demanding Pool A alongside strong opponents such as WR Chess and Barys. Chess United managed to secure a top-four finish in its group and advanced to the knockout stage. Unfortunately, the team was eliminated there by the squad led by GM Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. Despite this, Chess United achieved an outstanding final result, finishing among the top 16 teams out of the 48 participating teams. On an individual level, Fausti delivered a brilliant performance and improved upon his Rapid results. After resting in the first round, he played the next 10 rounds consecutively and amassed an impressive 9.5 points out of a possible 10. One of the highlights of the event was his epic victory against Polish super-grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda. In a highly tense game, Fausti found precise tactical resources in a complex position, kept fighting with remarkable resilience, and completely turned the game around before sealing the win after 118 moves.

He earns his third GM norm!
Fausti took part in the “Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026”, held from May 3 to May 10 in Sardinia, Italy. He finished with 6 points out of 9 rounds and achieved the performance required to earn his third GM norm, fulfilling the final requirement needed for the Grandmaster title!. An achievement that makes him very happy and is the result of a great deal of effort, dedication, resilience, and determination to keep fighting for his dreams. Every tournament, every game, and every challenge are part of this long and beautiful journey that he continues to pursue with great passion.

He becomes the youngest champion in the event’s history so far
On Friday, April 17, 2026, Fausti won the online tournament “Freestyle Friday” with a score of 9.5/11 points, followed by V Pranav (9 points) and Sahib Singh and S Rohith Krishna (8.5 points).

He participated in the Menorca Open for the third consecutive year in April
Fausti participated in the V Open Chess Menorca 2026 in April, scoring 6 points in 9 rounds. He faced very challenging opponents, although he was unable to meet the requirements for obtaining his third GM norm. Every experience adds to his growth.

Strong performance by Fausti in this tough tournament in Moscow
A week of top-level chess came to an end at the Aeroflot Open Moscow 2026. It was a highly intense 9-round tournament for Fausti, where he faced strong opponents and scored 5.5/9 points (4 wins, 3 draws, and 2 losses). He finished in 27th place out of nearly 170 players, improving on his initial 35th seed. He came very close to earning his third GM norm, but he returns home with something equally valuable: the understanding that clear goals, dedication, and hard work continue to build the path forward. Additionally, during the closing ceremony, he had the opportunity to meet Anatoly Karpov, who wished him good luck and shared a handshake with him.

He will compete among twelve of the world’s top young chess talents in a rapid tournament
Argentinian International Master Faustino Oro is part of the ChessKid Youth Championship U16, a prestigious international tournament that brings together some of the most promising young talents in world chess. The competition takes place on March 7 and 8 with a time control of 3 minutes plus a 1-second increment per move, guaranteeing dynamic and highly intense games. The tournament features 12 invited players, including several international masters and young grandmasters who already stand out among the elite of youth chess. The participants are divided into two groups of six players, where they compete in a double round-robin stage. After this initial phase, the top two players from each group advance to the knockout stage. In the knockout phase, the four qualified players face each other in a direct elimination format. The semifinals are played over four games, while the final is decided in a six-game match, always maintaining the same fast 3+1 time control. Among the participants are outstanding young chess players such as GM Yagiz Erdogmus, GM Andy Woodward, IM Tani Adewumi, IM Ryo Chen, IM Aaron Mendes, IM Henry Tudor, IM Lu Miaoyi, GM Sina Mohaved, IM Patryk Cieslak, FM Megan Paragua, and FM Sergey Sklokin, creating an extremely competitive field. The ChessKid Youth Championship, now celebrating its third edition, has established itself as one of the most important youth events on the international calendar, offering future chess stars the opportunity to compete on a global stage. In previous editions, champions such as GM Andy Woodward and IM Aaron Mendes (2025), and GM Yagiz Erdogmus (2024), left their mark on the tournament. Faustino Oro’s participation in this event reaffirms his place among the most outstanding young talents in the world, facing top-level opponents in a competition that promises exciting and high-quality games.
