Argentinian International Master Faustino Oro is part of the ChessKid Youth Championship U16, a prestigious international tournament that brings together some of the most promising young talents in world chess. The competition takes place on March 7 and 8 with a time control of 3 minutes plus a 1-second increment per move, guaranteeing dynamic and highly intense games. The tournament features 12 invited players, including several international masters and young grandmasters who already stand out among the elite of youth chess. The participants are divided into two groups of six players, where they compete in a double round-robin stage. After this initial phase, the top two players from each group advance to the knockout stage. In the knockout phase, the four qualified players face each other in a direct elimination format. The semifinals are played over four games, while the final is decided in a six-game match, always maintaining the same fast 3+1 time control. Among the participants are outstanding young chess players such as GM Yagiz Erdogmus, GM Andy Woodward, IM Tani Adewumi, IM Ryo Chen, IM Aaron Mendes, IM Henry Tudor, IM Lu Miaoyi, GM Sina Mohaved, IM Patryk Cieslak, FM Megan Paragua, and FM Sergey Sklokin, creating an extremely competitive field. The ChessKid Youth Championship, now celebrating its third edition, has established itself as one of the most important youth events on the international calendar, offering future chess stars the opportunity to compete on a global stage. In previous editions, champions such as GM Andy Woodward and IM Aaron Mendes (2025), and GM Yagiz Erdogmus (2024), left their mark on the tournament.
